If a K-Pop group has released a style of music previously, avoid writing songs in that style if you want a chance to place a song with them. They most likely won’t want to repeat that same style with their new releases#Kpop #MusicProduction#MusicIndustry

That’s one of the biggest mistakes I see. Give an artist something to propel them to the next level.

I recently watched the K-Pop docs 'Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE' and the BBC's 'Made in Korea' (⚠ spoilers)The KATSEYE doc focused more on the dancing by about 80% and the music was 20%. Made in Korea felt more of an 50/50 between the two. That was really eye opening for me as I solely focus on the K-Pop music and production. There is definitely a larger focus on the dance and visual side (arguably more than the music?) We are so far removed from the dance studio, mentors and choreography it's like a whole different world yet, our work is very closely linked together. Bizarre how I know so little about the process yet very knowledgeable on a small % of the big picture. It's very sobering and keeps me grounded! What are your thoughts on it?#kpop #musicproduction #HYBE #SMEntertainment

What is one of the most important elements that K-Pop A&Rs listen out for when they hear a new song? 🤔The 'Hook'. The hook is a simple, repetitive melody that plays throughout the song. Watch the video to learn why it's so important to A&Rs.The song and video was created for the client 91Vocals showcasing their latest vocal pack 'Cruise Control'Always open to working with new brands and clients.#musicproduction #contentcreator #musicindustry

When working with someone new, do you feel a lack of trust when you see minimal activity, engagement or followers across their social media? We use it to judge so much on first impressions. I am guilty of it!They could be very well established and choose not to invest in their online activity or prefer the privacy, but we don't seem to consider that? Why do you think that is the case?#musicindustry #socialmedia #marketing

Why did the song pitching game almost phase out and why did it become common for Pop artists to write their own material here in the West?Back in the 90s and early 00s, songwriters would frequently pitch their songs to groups and artists. We had writing teams like 'Xenomania' in the UK who were top of the game, writing for Dannii Minogue, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Girls Aloud + more. The rock and indie bands would almost always write their own music, this was the standard. But now it seems pop artists have followed the same trajectory. That pitching model still applies in K-Pop and Asia today, but it seems it's one of the only industries in music that still accepts pitching next to sync?Do you have thoughts or insights on this? I'm just interested tbh!#musicindustry #songwriting #musicproduction

You need a good amount of self belief with a healthy dose of delusion to get results in K-Pop songwriting and production. If you have come from another musical discipline or genre, you need to work from the (almost) ground up and match the level of writers who have spent years writing and pitching for these groups.Whatever genre or discipline you are most experienced in, you can always tell who has been doing it longer right?Don't get me wrong though, you NEED this way of thinking. That confidence and delusion at the beginning is crucial to actually start the thing you want to do, but consistency and discipline over a long period of time is what gets the results you want.I 100% did this when I moved from from orchestral scoring into K-Pop / Pop production. I had that level of delusion needed to start and yeah, there were similarities, but nowhere near the level of mastery required to match those who had been doing it for years. I would say it's unlucky and almost a curse to land a result first time as the luck will eventually run out, and you’ll spend a long time trying to get back to where you were at the start. Consistency and discipline with a bit of luck always works!Always looking to write and pitch to new A&Rs, brands and publishers. ⚠Looking to work with more brands / partners starting SeptemberHow I worked with the client Gatorade last year....Gatorade needed a K-Pop song for their commercial across Asia. The brief called for a specific K-Pop sound that would resonate with the masses. The song had a strict 30-second time limit, then edited to fit a 15-second time limit.I followed their brief and added my own knowledge and flair, honed from producing K-Pop songs over the years. I listened, suggested ideas and then incorporated feedback from Gatorade via emails to nail exactly what they wanted. The end result was a song, structure and vibe that Gatorade were happy with. The Gatorade commercial gained 37 million views on YouTube and the TV commercial was screened across the Philippines, Australia and New ZealandIf you would like to work together or have questions, let's talk via DMs!#advertising #musicproducer #kpop #producer

Tips to get out of your creative slump -- Have you listened to anything new? - Have you changed your day to day routine? - Have you tried writing at different times in the day? - Changed your writing environment?- Changed your entire approach to writing? In my experience those things work but most importantly, stop putting pressure on yourself. The more you try to force it the more resistance seems to happen. Sometimes, you just need to move with the flow of everything. It always passes, remember everything in life is always moving and changing. It helps you find hope when times are tough but at the same time, keeps you modest and humble when things are working out great! What tips work for you when you are in a creative slump?#musicproduction #songwriting #creativity
