Ella Purnell's Sweetpea marks the latest in a string of successful TV shows for the actor, making her return in season 2 of an upcoming show much more exciting. Purnell headlines Sweetpea's cast of characters as Rhiannon, a girl who struggles with feeling invisible before turning to a life of crime as an oddly sympathetic serial killer. This central performance drives the entire story of Sweetpea and, without it, the show's reviews would not have been positive enough to rank it as one of Ella Purnell's best TV shows.
What makes Sweetpea more impressive when looking at the bigger picture is how it is simply another footnote in the impressive breakout career of Purnell. The actor has been widely known since her performance in Yellowjackets but, since then, Purnell has been part of some of the best TV shows based on video games and impressive dramas like Sweetpea, while also accruing a list of fantastic voice-acting credits. When combining each of these and viewing the entire picture of Purnell’s recent career, her return in an upcoming show is made entirely more enticing: Arcane season 2.
Ella Purnell’s Career Has Only Gotten Bigger Since Arcane Season 1
Arcane Was Only The Start Of Purnell's Long Line Of Standout Performances
In 2021, Purnell voiced the character of Jinx in Arcane season 1, a show many did not expect to be as outstanding as it was. Since then, Purnell's career has only increased in size, with a variety of different shows, voice-acting roles, and characters being perfected by the actor over the years. Other voice roles for Purnell include Star Trek: Prodigy in which she has voiced the character of Gwyn in 40 episodes. In the same year as Arcane, Purnell received her breakout live-action roles in both Yellowjackets and Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead.
Purnell's expertise in voice acting will be utilized to continue her role in the Army of the Dead franchise in the prequel animated series subtitled Lost Vegas.
Each of these roles came in 2021 and combined to make the year a breakout one for Purnell. From then on, Purnell has secured several major roles to give her more mainstream recognition, more roles to sink her teeth into, and more critical acclaim. 2024 saw Purnell play the lead role of Lucy in Prime Video's Fallout for which she received critical acclaim. October 2024 then saw Sweetpea release in its entirety to a 100% critical approval score on Rotten Tomatoes, only continuing Purnell's hot streak and proving how large her career has grown since Arcane season 1.

Arcane
TV-14
Set in the League of Legends universe, Arcane focuses on sisters Violet and Powder (later Jinx) as they end up on opposite sides of a growing conflict between the wealthy utopia of Piltover and its dark undercity whose citizens wish to break away from their oppressors. Hailee Steinfeld, Ella Purnell, and Kevin Alejandro star in this animated adventure.

In November 2024, Arcane season 2 - the final season - will be released on Netflix. The show is based on the popular online game League of Legends, yet takes a much deeper look at the lore of the video game's established characters, centering around the sibling duo of Jinx and Vi. The sisters are locked on either side of a class war between the nations of Piltover and Zaun, with Arcane season 1 being deceptively excellent. The writing, animation style, voice acting, story, and characters were all fantastic, levels above what many assumed could be possible when adapting League of Legends.

Why Arcane Is Ending With Season 2
Arcane season 2 will see the end of Jinx and Vi's story, but was the hit Netflix series canceled, and what's next for League of Legends stories?
For this reason, it is hard to imagine Arcane season 2 tarnishing Ella Purnell's strong streak of acclaimed TV shows. Based on Arcane season 2's trailers, it seems the show's unique, breathtaking visual flair will remain, as will its deep exploration of brilliantly sympathetic characters. Purnell returns as Jinx in Arcane season 2 and will continue to prove why her voice performance is so effective in making Jinx a memorable villain who audiences still root for to a degree. Given the show's many positives, it is unlikely to be a stain on Purnell's mightily impressive record.
What To Expect From Ella Purnell As Jinx In Arcane's Final Season
Jinx & Vi's Story Will Come To A Dramatic, Explosive Conclusion
Many were disappointed to find out that Arcane season 2 would be the show's last, as this specific entry into the League of Legends TV universe closes out the story of Purnell's Jinx and Hailee Steinfeld's Vi. This altered what audiences were expecting from the story of the show, as what was another installment became the final one. In Arcane season 1's cliffhanger ending, Jinx used a giant rocket fueled by arcane technology to destroy the council of Piltover, a wealthy city that hangs over a destitute underworld named Zaun.
In Arcane season 2, those connected to Piltover's council, namely Caitlyn, Vi's girlfriend, will seek revenge against Jinx. Amid the other storylines of political tension, class wars, and the exploration of arcane magic and technology, Arcane season 2 will focus intently on Jinx and Vi's relationship. The two were once sisters until Jinx, formerly known as Powder, was forced to grow up in Zaun under a ruthless madman. Now, Arcane season 2 will put the sisters against each other one final time, completing the show's story and, hopefully, sustaining Ella Purnell's impressive TV streak after Sweetpea.
